DescriptionCal Poly Pomona Enterprises Employment ServicesANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCYSUMMARY: Currently searching for Part-Time Undergraduate Student Assistants to work on a USDA HSI Education Grant, under the supervision of Dr. Helen Trejo, Principal Investigator, Dr. Simeng Li and Dr. Brian Ramirez (Co-Principal Investigators). SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
- A research assistant will work with Dr. Helen Trejo, Dr. Simeng Li, and Dr. Brian Ramirez on the project Culturally Relevant Experiential Learning in Apparel & Engineering: US Natural Fibers, Agricultural Byproducts, and Community Engagement.
- This position will involve engaging in sustainability activities with US natural fibers, engaging in practitioner- scholar best practices at a Hispanic Serving Institution, and outreach activities. This will include reviewing the project narrative, developing an academic literature review, hands-on activities, data visualization, collaboration, and participation in department, campus and/or academic presentations. Will be expected to attend project meetings to remain updated about progress, and participate in a mentoring plan.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be majoring in Apparel Merchandising & Management, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Interested in interdisciplinary undergraduate research, hands-on learning, and outreach.
- Strong organizational, communication, writing, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previously engaged in undergraduate research through a course, or the CPP Office of Undergraduate Research program (RIO, McNair Scholars, etc.).
- Experience with department/ college/ university outreach.
