Position Description

The Structural Layout position is a key part of our fabrication process where you will primarily be responsible for reading and interpreting blueprints, measuring, marking, and positioning steel parts for assembly into beams, columns, trusses, and other structural building components. Ben's Structural Fabrication takes pride in all our steel fabrication projects, our quality assurance, and our commitment to safety — and most importantly, our people.

Overview:

To accurately measure, mark, and lay out steel components for fitting and assembly in a safe and timely manner, while adhering to Ben's quality standards.

Essential Duties:

  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Review shop drawings and interpret them to determine weld requirements.
  • Fabricate weldments according to shop drawings.
  • Surface preparation prior to and after welding, sand, grind, wire brush, degrease, etc.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment.
  • Conduct GMAW-pule (MIG) welding in the flat and horizontal positions, on multiple types of surfaces including mild steel and stainless-steel components.
  • Keep work area neat and organized.
  • Complete accurate documentation as required.
  • Frequent lifting of 50-100 lbs.
  • All other duties as assigned.

    • Job Details:

    Schedule has No Weekends!

    Work Monday-Thursday, 6:00am to 4:15pm.

    Occasional overtime is possible on Fridays from 6:00am-3:00pm.

    Position Requirements
  • Proven welding skills: 1 to 2+ years of MIG experience on steel surfaces (mild steel, stainless steel).
  • Must be Able to pass a Horizontal (2G) weld qualification test.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced setting.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, team-oriented, adept communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to inspect material for quality conformance through the use of measuring devices and drawings.
  • Strong inclination for production welding.
  • Ability to read prints, or the ability to learn to read prints containing, dimensions, common weld symbols, and weld specifications.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Applicants who have successful completed a welding curriculum from an accredited technical college, and those that have the ability to weld in vertical up position (3G) are strongly desired.
