Position Description Responsible for accurately laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting together fabricated material to construct various structural components and assemblies such as stair stringers, platforms, handrails, and I-beam layout. Must be able to interpret complex blueprints, utilize a wide range of tools and equipment, and ensure all work adheres to strict quality and safety standards. Prepare materials for welding, riveting, or other joining processes, ensuring precise fit-up to meet specifications.
Position Requirements - Blueprint Interpretation: Read and accurately interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and other techincal specifications to determine material requirements, dimensions, and assembly sequences for structural components.
- Lay out and Marking: Lay out and mark reference points, bending lines, and cutting lines on metal stock or workpieces, allowing for material thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
- Material preparation: Cut, grind, shape and prepare metal components (beams, columns, plates, pipes, handrails, stairs) using various tools.
- Fitting and assembly: Position, align, and fit together fabricated parts, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, hammers, clamps , and other alignment tools to achieve precise fit-up.
- Tack welding: Perform basic tack welding to temporarily secure fitted parts in preparation for final welding by certified welders.
