Summary:

The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise primarily for dam structures, hydropower facilities, and flood control structures such as spillways, decant systems, overflow weirs, culverts, pump/lift stations, and other hydraulic structures. Responsibilities include design and analysis, project management, preparing plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, site inspections, dam safety evaluations, risk analyses, and minor construction observation. The role may require short-term, out-of-town assignments. Opportunities may also include renewable projects like wind turbine foundation design, mining, and industrial processing facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in structural or civil engineering with a structural emphasis (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design)
  • 10 years of related work experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Revit and structural analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members and clients
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Interest in leading and mentoring early career engineers
  • Willingness to travel and adjust personal schedule as needed
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of related experience
  • Master's degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Experience in consulting industry
  • Experience with dam safety reviews, audits, inspections, and structural stability analyses of hydraulic structures
  • Familiarity with hydrotechnical, mechanical, and electrical aspects of hydropower operations
  • Familiarity with hydraulic design of dam appurtenant structures

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered, splitting time between office and home. This position is based in Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota; Ann Arbor, Michigan; or Denver, Colorado offices.

Compensation:

The expected base salary range is $115,000-$130,000/year. The position is exempt under FLSA. Compensation varies based on experience, education, and skills. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, and Barr distributes profits through bonuses and an ESOP.
