Job Purpose: The Structural Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, evaluation, and oversight of structural systems for manufacturing, construction, and industrial projects. Ensures safety, compliance, and durability of all designs, while supporting project teams through all phases of execution. Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Perform structural engineering calculations compliant with applicable codes and standards. Design structural systems including steel frames, foundations, supports, and connections for industrial, manufacturing, and construction projects. Conduct structural analysis and calculations to ensure stability, strength, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Create organized, legible, and thorough engineering calculation packages. Develop CAD drawings, blueprints, and 3D models for structural components. Draft and/or create construction documents for construction and jurisdictional permits. Review design drawings, calculations, and shop drawings to ensure accuracy and constructability. Supervise and mentor support staff engineers, engineers-in-training (EITs), and drafters. Manage project budgets, schedules, and timelines, communicating project status to management. Engage in communications and collaboration with clients, architects, and designers. Evaluate site conditions and conduct assessments to inform structural design. Collaborate with project managers, fabrication teams, inspectors, and management to resolve design and field issues. Provide material specifications and performance requirements for structural applications. Estimate project costs for structural components and materials for quoting purposes. Actively engage in problem-solving, alternative analysis, and decision-making. Write investigative reports, field reports, and proposals as needed. Participate in marketing efforts and represent the company positively in the community and professional organizations. Ensure projects comply with OSHA regulations, local building codes, and industry standards. Utilize engineering software including CAD, finite element analysis (FEA), and other structural design tools. Maintain confidentiality of all intellectual property including drawings, calculations, and models. Other duties as assigned. - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field from an ABET accredited university.
- 5+ years of related experience in structural design and analysis preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
- Familiarity with CAD systems, finite element analysis software, and structural modeling platforms.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of steel and concrete structures.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and building codes.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to operate computers and software including Microsoft Office products.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive company information.
