Structural Designer - LNG

Functions in a technical specialist/entry level supervisory capacity. In a technical design role, solves difficult technical problems, as well as provides consultation and training. In addition to design and production responsibilities, directs efforts of other engineering technician professionals as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviews project requirements and determines correct format and contents of the required deliverables.
  • Ensures deliverables are following codes and standards.
  • Solves difficult technical problems and provides consultation and training.
  • Coordinates deliverables with other groups to minimize interference or errors.
  • Participates with other design groups to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
  • Performs functions requiring advanced knowledge and use of electronic applications, standards, and document control processes/procedures in support of creating or modifying deliverables.
  • Provides technical guidance to other engineering technicians.
  • Ensures adherence to Black & Veatch Quality Program to deliver accurate and compliant outputs.
  • Directs and supports project teams in using applications to continuously improve methods, processes, and procedures.
  • Creates and develops deliverables based on various design inputs, performing, and coordinating computations such as quantity estimates and dimensional checks.
  • Understands and meets the needs of internal clients while considering external clients' main interests and drivers.
  • Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of the latest technologies and processes.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Offshore/Marine LNG experience.
  • Leadership, design, and supervisory experience in offshore/marine LNG projects.
  • Diploma or Certificate preferred; Associate-degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
  • Typically, a minimum of 11 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of software: Autodesk AutoCAD, SmartPlant3D, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and Aveva E3D (preferred but not required).
  • Working knowledge of structural design and projects.
  • Knowledge of project/industry standards and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and change management skills.
  • Strong leadership and delegation abilities.
  • Desire and ability to teach others.
  • Team-building and excellent problem-solving skills.
