Next filing cut-offs are at 5:00 pm on:7/22/25, 8/5/25 (final)Under direction, the Stormwater Utility Manager, supervises a staff engaged in the repair and maintenance of storm water collection and distribution facilities primarily within the boundaries of the Stormwater Utility District in Sacramento County. These facilities include: channels, creeks, ditches, and other waterways; manholes, drain inlets, and underground pipelines; levees and detention basins; and drainage facility appurtenances and access roads.Knowlege of
- Methods and techniques of supervision and training

- Methods, materials, tools, and equipment, including their operation, maintenance, capacities and limitations, used in the maintenance and repair of storm water collection and distribution facilities
- General Safety Orders and Construction Safety Orders as issued by OSHA for personal safety

- Environmental considerations, policies, procedures and agreements with government agencies and jurisdictions
- County policies and procedures
- Purchasing contracts, policies and procedures for purchasing rental agreements, equipment and supplies
- Policies and procedures regarding gas detection devices, confined space, and handling of hazardous materials
Ability to

Minimum QualificationsEither:1. One year in a Sacramento County class supervising airfield maintenance or highway maintenance activitiesOr:2. Two years of full-time experience in a journey level or above class in Sacramento County performing stormwater utility, highway maintenance, underground pipeline maintenance and repair, or airfield maintenance work.Or:3. Three years of full-time experience as a lead worker or supervisor over crews performing duties which have included (1) drainage maintenance, repair, or construction work, (2) underground pipeline maintenance, repair or construction work, or (3) related experience.Note: If the word “experience” is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.General QualificationsLicense Requirement: A valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher is required prior to appointment to this class. Failure to maintain the appropriate California Driver's License) may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.Physical Requirements:
- Sit for periods up to one hour while driving to work sites
- When working at the stormwater utility facility sites instructing employees, planning work to be performed or reviewing completed work, discussing plans and specifications with contractors, etc., incumbents will be required to:
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Reach above the shoulder
- Climb ladders with a maximum capacity of 300 pounds
- Lift and carry up to 60 pounds without assistance
- Walk on uneven surfaces
- Climb into and out of excavations and a variety of waterways such as creeks, channels, and ditches
Working Conditions:
- Work outside in all types of climatic conditions including inclement and very hot weather
- Work around dust, dirt, noise, contaminated and non-contaminated water, chemicals, machinery and equipment with moving parts, moving vehicles, traffic, fumes, and/or odors
Work Outside of Normal Work Hours: All employees in this class will be required to work overtime, standby and call back. In particular, during periods of heavy rain and/or flood conditions, the repair and maintenance of storm water collection facilities is a 24 hours a day operation and all employees in this class will be subject to working night shifts, weekends, and holidays.Probationary PeriodThe probationary period for this classification issix (6)months.

FORMULA RATE EXAMINATION (Weighted 100%)

This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience. The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination. Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete. The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job.
All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
