Petco is seeking a General Manager for a Pet Care Center to lead the store through our vision of Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World. The GM will develop a high-performing team and deliver top-line sales growth while maintaining welfare, health, and proper care of all animals. This role leads Pet Care Center managers, leaders and partners and is accountable for all aspects of managing a single Pet Care Center. The GM focuses on people (talent acquisition, training, and development), performance (guest service, sales, and expense control), and process (standard operating procedures and policies) to drive overall profitability. A passion for pets, ability to inspire and lead a team, focus on process excellence, and a drive for results are required.

People
- Build a team that embodies the Petco brand by delivering exceptional service and driving guest loyalty.
- Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent.
- Train, coach, and develop leaders and hourly Pet Care Center partners in all areas required to run the store efficiently and to Petco standards, including effective rollout selling models.
- Create a professional environment that inspires growth and engagement of partners.
- Lead and implement a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration by prioritizing and providing clear direction.
- Ensure quick and courteous service by helping partners determine guest needs and sharing product knowledge to enable appropriate solutions.
- Responsible for all partner performance management in the Pet Care Center.
- Demonstrate and support a continuous improvement and growth mindset.
Performance
- Meet or exceed goals related to total Pet Care Center sales, profitability, and operational excellence.
- Schedule and adjust labor hours and payroll to maximize productivity and achieve sales goals.
- Review and interpret financial and operational reporting regularly, including visits and audits.
- Identify underperforming metrics and develop strategies to improve and grow the business using Petco programs and resources.
- Market the Pet Care Center and oversee on-site and community events (adoptions, school visits, local promotions and animal-welfare events).
Process
- Ensure proper health, appearance, welfare, and handling of all animals.
- Ensure merchandise is properly priced, displayed, and stocked according to inventory levels and guidelines; adjust merchandising as needed to implement store plans.
- Complete and submit accounting, inventory management, and payroll paperwork promptly; maintain expenses within budgeted levels.
- Maintain the Pet Care Center's appearance and safety procedures.
- Protect pets and merchandise by meeting standards and procedures, including safety, inventory control, and loss prevention.
- Open/close the Pet Care Center in accordance with safety and security policies.
- Maintain the center's professional image, appearance, and cleanliness.

Education And Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; proficiency in business and finance, analysis, problem-solving, and people development & guest service.
- Excellence in communication and computer skills.
- Three or more years of management experience; prior retail management is preferred.
- Working knowledge of general business practices and strong organizational skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to instruct others; professional appearance and genuine interest in animals.
- Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle. Completion of PETCO Management Achievement Program modules may be required for internal candidates.
Supervisory Responsibility
The General Manager directly supervises a team of leaders and is responsible for all Pet Care Center partners and services.
Work Environment
The majority of duties are indoors; occasional stocking, carry-outs, and bank deposits may require brief outside work. Role involves bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing for long periods. Some travel may be required.
