Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision.Job SummaryThe Sterile Processing Associate I (SPD Technician I) is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, power equipment, endoscopes, and related medical supplies. This role ensures proper sterilization practices, quality control testing, and adherence to infection control guidelines to support safe patient care.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform decontamination, disinfection, and cleaning of general and specialty surgical instruments and equipment.Disassemble, inspect, and prepare instruments and equipment for proper cleaning and sterilization.Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot cleaning and sterilization equipment while maintaining OSHA safety standards.Apply knowledge of sterilization methods (steam, sterrad, and others), including documentation, storage, and monitoring of mechanical/chemical indicators.Enter, modify, and track information in the instrument tracking system; scan all tasks and sets into daily records.Follow infection control guidelines during handling, storage, and transportation of sterile packages.Prepare and dispatch surgical cases using the Horizon Surgical Manager program to access OR schedules.Accurately identify, pick, and prepare medical/surgical supplies per surgeon preference cards, label case carts, and deliver to operating rooms.Perform additional duties such as answering phones, cleaning, stocking, transporting, and dispensing supplies and equipment as needed.Skills & QualificationsCRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) preferred.Ability to lift, push, pull, or move supplies and equipment (with or without assisted devices).Able to handle chemicals and detergents safely.Strong communication, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.Must be able to operate automated and technical equipment accurately and efficiently.Intermediate proficiency in MS Office.EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent (required).Basic knowledge of reading, writing, and math typically acquired through secondary education.
