Pasadena City College is Hiring: Student Retention Specialist Salary: $6,123.44 - $6,751.09 per month (depending on experience, plus excellent benefits) Job Description: About the Role: Pasadena City College is seeking a dedicated and student-centered professional to serve as a Student Retention Specialist. In this critical role, you will support student success by identifying barriers to retention and helping students stay on track toward completing their educational goals. You will work closely with students, faculty, and support services to deliver early interventions, personalized guidance, and targeted resources to improve academic persistence. Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify students at risk of academic withdrawal or failure and provide targeted support
  • Coordinate retention and follow-up activities for specialized student populations
  • Assist students with academic planning, referrals to campus services, and success strategies
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes
  • Collaborate with faculty, counselors, and program coordinators to implement retention initiatives
  • Participate in outreach activities, workshops, and presentations to promote student success
SUCCESS COACHES:
  • Lead recruitment, training, and daily supervision of success coaches while providing regular professional development and constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with campus teams to integrate coaches into the Student Success Team model, supporting holistic student services.
  • Oversee coach performance, develop training materials, and coordinate events that enhance student success initiatives.
  • Create and manage coach caseloads to ensure timely, personalized support for students throughout the academic year.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Experience working in student services or academic support in a higher education setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze student data to develop action plans
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, counseling, psychology, sociology, or closely related field
  • Three years of professional experience in student development and engagement, academic advising, retention, early alert intervention
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in in education, counseling, psychology, sociology, or closely related field.
  • Five years of professional experience in student development and engagement, academic advising, retention, early alert intervention
  • One year experience working intentionally with closing equity gaps.
