Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is ranked in all 10 specialties by the U.S. News & World Report.Location680 Lake Shore DriveJob DescriptionWorks with senior hospital leadership, healthcare providers, clinical and operational leadership, researchers, Epic application analysts, and information technology staff to develop and deliver datasets, statistical analyses, statistical process control charts and other data products to measure and monitor healthcare quality, safety, and process improvement initiatives, and to conduct research. Serves as a hospital-wide expert on biostatistics, the statistics of quality measurement, the use of statistical software and the interpretation of results. Takes ownership of project plans, including estimating task durations, documenting and communicating risks, dependencies and constraints, and tracking issues that impact project completion. Communicates clearly in writing and in person to non-technical colleagues; sets appropriate expectations with clinicians, operational leads and researchers in terms of the timeline, complexity and interpretation of the analytic product Presents findings and processes to external audiences.Essential Job Functions
- Leads complex analytic projects under time constraints, facilitating productive collaboration across participating departments.
- Ability to work with senior leaders of the hospital to produce analytics that will drive hospital-wide change and strategy.
- Develops novel multivariate algorithms and solutions for complex analytics challenges.
- Provides mentoring and professional development to members of DAR staff, including performing in-services and providing training for hospital leaders and analysts across the organization.
- Develops and co-develops manuscripts for journal submission; routinely presents findings to internal and external academic audiences, following best practices for transparency of methods and reproducibility.
- Ability to work well with a wide range of data sources and statistical software.
- Provides analytics and reporting support to interdisciplinary teams across the hospital enterprise, making design choices for analyses, comparisons and interpretation.
- Writes analytic and statistical programs, routines and stored processes to transform extracts into tables and figures, or other data summaries, visualizations and dashboards using SAS or equivalent statistical software and Microsoft tools (SSRS, Power BI).
- Recommends, documents, runs, and communicates the results of a wide range of statistical procedures, including statistical process control charts using SAS QC (specifically PROC SHEWHART).
- Working with clinicians, operational leads and researchers, records and refines data requirements related to projects on the measurement and monitoring of clinical practice, healthcare quality, and workflow processes.
- Works with clinicians, operational leads and researchers to understands clinical and operational processes and how these are recorded in and extracted from the Epic electronic medical record.
- Writes programs and scripts that convert customer requirements into data extracts and analytic products, making use of Epic Clarity, Epic Cogito data warehouse, Crystal Reports, SQL, and/or statistical software.
- Facilitates the validation of database/data warehouse extracts by clinicians, operational leads and researchers to ensure that results accurately reflect the clinical and operational practices of the hospital.
- Adheres to HIPAA and Institutional Review Board regulations for privacy, transactions, security and confidentiality; follows procedures to ensure data release restrictions related to service area and/or IRB approved elements are maintained.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Doctorate in statistics, biostatistics, data science, health informatics, computer science, engineering, social or behavioral science, or other field related to healthcare quality improvement or process control preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience programming SAS statistical software (or equivalent) (three years if a doctorate has been earned).
- Demonstrated expertise in statistical process control, hypothesis testing, and/or multivariate analysis methodologies applied to healthcare themes.
- Advanced computer proficiency in Microsoft Business Intelligence tools, including SSRS and Power BI, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated competency in communication, collaboration and project management.
- Demonstrated experience presenting analytic findings to academic audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to develop teaching modules and to teach non-experts about analytics.
- Ability to write clear and concise technical memos, report sections, and project-related documentation.
- Ability to verbally describe technical reporting and statistical issues and solutions to a non-technical audience.
- Ability to create, manage and interpret complex datasets, including data aggregation, analysis, and data mining.
- One or more years of experience writing SQL queries and implementing basic techniques to improve efficiency preferred.
- Prior experience extracting or analyzing Epic electronic medical record data preferred.
