Shift: Rotating Shift

Position Purpose: Primary relief person for Stationary Engineer & Coverage Mechanic positions. Performs duties in and around the hospital buildings to maintain Plant Operations 24/7, including repairs, monitoring machinery, systems, mechanical equipment, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, kitchen equipment, Building Management Systems, and Fire Alarm Systems. Operates boilers and compressors safely, providing utilities such as light, heat, and power. Must make independent and timely decisions on all shifts and remain on site until relieved by an OE-2 Operating Stationary Engineer. Responds to off-shift engineering calls and performs relief work on various shifts, including weekends and holidays.

What You Will Do:

  • Operate and maintain all hospital mechanical systems and equipment, perform basic repairs, and report hazards or breakdowns.
  • Operate high-pressure steam boilers, auxiliary equipment, centrifugal chillers, and water towers to ensure continuous steam or chilled water supply.
  • Maintain commitment to personal growth and competency.
  • Support safe and efficient plant operations and contribute to department effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate dependability in job performance to support hospital operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma
  • Ability to read and write English
  • 2 years experience operating and repairing high-pressure steam boilers and auxiliary equipment
  • 3 years experience in basic repair and maintenance of hospital facilities and equipment
  • OE-2 Operating Stationary Engineer licensure required

Working Conditions:

  • Requires lifting/pushing/pulling objects over 100 pounds, coordination skills, walking, standing, sitting, and working in uncomfortable positions for prolonged periods. Ability to concentrate amid interruptions and communicate effectively using checklists.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, blood, body tissues, high/low temperatures, seasonal outdoor conditions, grease, oil, toxins, dust, injuries, loud noises, humidity, electrical hazards, and burns. Moderate stress in emergency situations.
