Job ResponsibilitiesThe Staff Writer is responsible for creating and editing a broad range of written content that supports the University's integrated marketing, digital, and communications strategies. This position places a strong emphasis on writing for the web, with a focus on search engine optimization (SEO), user engagement, and brand consistency. The writer will generate creative and compelling story ideas; conduct interviews with a wide range of individuals; and produce web content, news stories, feature articles, and marketing materials tailored for digital and print platforms. Key responsibilities include covering major and minor university events; drafting and editing press releases and feature stories for distribution across channels; promoting institutional priorities through magazine and website content; and supporting content needs for landing pages, digital advertising, social media, and email marketing. The Staff Writer will work closely with the digital and design teams to align messaging with Lander's voice, tone, and strategic goals. Minimum and Additional RequirementsBachelor's degree in journalism, mass communications or related field.. 3-5 years of experience in news writing, marketing or public relations, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Experience with social media platforms is required. Must have strong skills in providing excellent customer service and demonstrate strong ethics. A valid driver's license and safe driving history are required. Preferred Qualifications Experience writing for higher education or nonprofit communications. Additional CommentsStrong writing, editing and interviewing skills are required, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Familiarity of Associated Press style. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and SEO principles.
