Perplexity is seeking a Senior Authentication Engineer to join our innovative team revolutionizing internet search and interaction. In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, and scaling of authentication systems that power our web and mobile products, ensuring secure and seamless user experiences across our platform.Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain robust authentication systems for our Next.js-based web applicationsArchitect and develop secure, scalable authentication flows incorporating various providers (e.g., OAuth, email/passwordless)Collaborate with front-end, back-end, mobile and security teams to integrate authentication seamlessly across our application stackTroubleshoot and resolve complex authentication issuesImplement and maintain best practices for user authentication, authorization, and securityOptimize authentication performance and user experienceStay up-to-date with the latest developments in authentication technologies and security standardsDesign and implement ACLs for customer-specific permissions and resource managementQualifications 5+ years of experience in web development3+ years building and architecting web authentication systemsExtensive experience with Next.js and NextAuth.jsDeep understanding of OAuth 2.0, JWT, and other authentication protocolsExperience with database systems (e.g. PostgreSQL)Experience working with cloud platforms (e.g AWS)Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detailExcellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environmentNice to haves Experience with enterprise authentication like SSO and SCIM (e.g. WorkOS)Experience with mobile authenticationOur cash compensation range for this role is $180,000 - $280,000.At Perplexity, we've experienced tremendous growth and adoption since publicly launching the world's first fully functional conversational answer engine in 2022.
