H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm in Melville, NY seeks a full-time staff scientist. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with sampling, testing, and inspections for asbestos surveys, water and mold damage assessments, reviewing and understanding site plans, completing asbestos and mold inspections for insurance companies, private industries, and school districts. Assistance with other environmental hazard surveys such as lead and indoor air quality assessments is required. Travel is necessary for this position, and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work-related travel including travel to and from job sites.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform asbestos and/or mold surveys on residential and commercial buildings.
  • Provide project monitoring and air sampling, including compliance with on-site field protocols such as chain of custody forms and daily logs.
  • Conduct analysis tabulation, analysis review/evaluation, and report writing.
  • Assist with lead and other indoor air quality testing.
  • Communicate project updates and/or relevant information with the project team and clients.
  • Prior experience dealing with contractors and ensuring compliance with state and city agencies is a plus.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or related discipline is highly desirable.
  • 0 to 4 years of experience in the environmental consulting field, specifically industrial hygiene.
  • Current NYSDOL Asbestos certifications for the following:
    • Project Monitor
    • Project Designer
  • Current NYSDOL Mold certification for the following:
    • Mold Assessor Required.
  • Lead EPA lead inspector/risk assessor certification is a plus.
  • IICRC certifications are a plus.
  • Strong technical skills including field expertise and knowledge of architectural drawings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Note: Occasional nights and weekends may be required.

The salary range for this role is $65,000 - $95,000 annually.

The employment offer may deviate from this published range based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, specialty, knowledge, education, geography, and/or related certifications – not related to any applicant's characteristics protected by local, state, or federal law.
