Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Per Diem Staff Nurse for the Bayside State Prison located in Leesburg, NJ. The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus for inmates in the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of residents/patients, including adolescents (13-17), adults (18-64) and their families within the correctional system framework.
• Performs assessments of residents/patients in various settings (initial intake, health care unit for sick call, emergencies in housing, chronic care clinics, infirmary).
• Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
• Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions.
• Plans nursing care by identifying resident/patient needs based on assessments; makes referrals and initiates nursing care per institutional policies and procedures.
• As team leader or charge nurse, delegates duties to other health care team members and guides provision of care by others.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing

Certifications/Licenses: License to practice in the State of New Jersey; Valid Driver's License required with own vehicle or alternative transportation; CPR certification required.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or equivalent preferred; minimum of one year of experience in a correctional setting preferred.
