Act out the part of a patient in specific and defined clinical encounters in order to help the SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine medical students practice data gathering, communication, and clinical examination skills. Primary Responsibilities Standardized Patients (SPs) are responsible for memorizing scripts detailing specific emotions, behaviors, and disease signs/symptoms for presentation during simulated learning situations. Presents case information in a standardized manner, as elicited by students during simulated interactive patient history and/or medical examinations. Portrays a role consistently and accurately as trained by the Standardized Patient Coordinator, Clinical Skills Director and clinical skills staff while remaining in character as trained when responding to student questions. Works in a professional manner when interacting with students, faculty, fellow SPs and staff. Receives ongoing feedback in order to modify performance behaviors accordingly.
