Job DescriptionTITLE: Staff Engineer - Energy Duties: Research new engineering standards, technologies, and trends in standards and serve as the primary resource for review and approval of test procedures, methods, and interpretations. Perform testing, inspection and certification of products. Perform research related to the standards, technologies, and test methods/procedures in connection with power conversion systems, especially products such as inverters, rectifiers, generators, energy storage systems, batteries, switchgears etc. Provide local management with technical assessment of engineering skills and performance levels. Responsible for assessing training of the technical staff and development of new training programs. Provide on-going support and guidance on technical issues, test procedures, and standards interpretations. Provide expertise in multiple product categories. Provide quotes for a large array of standards and complex projects and products. Handle calibration issues. Develop and communicate test procedures. Represent Intertek on technical committees, code panels and/or associations. Support accreditations activities such as audit follow-up and corrective actions. Investigate technical complaints. Audit and qualify sites for special Intertek programs. Actively review reports for multiple product categories. Design new test fixtures and report shells. Provide complex sales support such as giving presentations during client visits. Provide on-going support to clients as needed. Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments. Recommend and prepare capital expenditure requests and manage capital projects. Mentor less senior technical staff. This position requires 40% domestic, 10% international travel. Remote work permitted. SALARY: $128,578.72-$135,000/year LOCATION: Intertek Testing Services NA, Inc., 3933 US Route 11, Cortland, NY 13045 REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field of study and six (6) years of experience as a (all levels) Test Engineer, Engineering Associate, or related role where required experience gained. SPECIAL SKILLS: Also requires experience in the following:
- U.S., Canadian, and other International product safety standards, i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC;
- Applying principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems such as compliance engineering, test method development, failure analysis;
- Non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.);
- Variety of abstract and concrete variables such as core electrical systems; and power conversion systems including but not limited to inverters, converters, switchgear, panelboards, mechanical / chemical, energy storage systems, generators, etc.; and
- Making technical decisions and engineering judgments independently where limited standardization exists.
