Position Summary

Walmart Connect is a key component of Walmart's growth strategy. It has established a multibillion-dollar in-house advertising business that is a robust, omnichannel media services division with WMC. We partner with brands on strategies and solutions that leverage Walmart's extensive omnichannel influence to deliver relevant retail ads and experiences, connecting customers with their preferred brands and products. We utilize Walmart's proprietary data, covering 95% of American households, to measure campaign impact both online and in-store.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and innovative leader with deep expertise in media analytics and measurement. The Staff Research Data Scientist will shape our organization's future through data-driven insights grounded in solid methodology.

What You'll Do
  • Lead research initiatives on advertiser and user behavior by designing and scaling causal inference frameworks (e.g., A/B testing, geo tests, synthetic controls, uplift modeling) to measure ad impact across channels (display, search, CTV, programmatic).
  • Develop advanced modeling solutions, including econometric models and predictive ML (propensity, LTV, bidding), to optimize campaign performance and marketplace efficiency.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales teams to translate research insights into product improvements and marketplace innovations.
  • Mentor data scientists and cross-functional partners, establishing best practices for experimentation, statistical modeling, and machine learning.
  • Advance methodologies in media mix modeling, attribution, and lift studies for online and offline channels, staying ahead of industry trends.
  • Design experiments for complex marketing scenarios, building inference models and validating causal effects.
  • Perform hands-on analysis using SQL and Python, presenting insights that connect technical results to business outcomes.
  • Enhance models to quantify marketing impact and inform budget allocation decisions.
  • Collaborate across teams to integrate research-driven solutions into scalable data science systems.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years of industry experience in data science, machine learning, measurement, marketing strategy, or analytics.
  • Experience in building causal inference models and designing complex test scenarios.
  • Proficiency in Python/SQL, data visualization, and database knowledge.
  • Experience with predictive modeling and machine learning algorithms.
  • Strong communication skills to translate technical insights into business strategies.
  • Excellent project management skills, managing resources and priorities effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Collaborative mindset and curiosity.
  • Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Operations Research, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research, or related fields.
  • Experience with online and in-store media tactics, advertising platforms, and digital accessibility standards.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and accessible design practices.
Locations and Compensation

Hoboken, NJ: $132,000 - $264,000 annually. San Bruno, CA: $143,000 - $286,000 annually. Additional bonuses and stock options are available.
