Summary of Position:

Patriot Rail Company seeks a self-motivated, team-oriented attorney capable of managing assignments with minimal supervision. The Staff Attorney will assist with in-house legal matters, focusing on employment-related issues and claims management. The ideal candidate will possess excellent research, writing, negotiation, and communication skills, with keen attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform legal research and analysis.
  • Provide guidance to Human Resources on employment matters, including hiring, termination, discipline, promotion, performance management, and company policies.
  • Draft and review contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
  • Support business units with legal guidance on operational issues.
  • Conduct due diligence on various matters such as business contracts, M&A, and policy compliance.
  • Assist with litigation and regulatory issues.
  • Advise on company risk management, including insurance oversight and claims management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Job Requirements:
    • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
    • Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the Florida Bar or eligible for certification as house counsel in Florida.
    • Preferably with railroad experience, but not mandatory.
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience, in-house or law firm.
    • Experience in employment law, litigation management, and contract drafting preferred.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and drafting skills.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
    • Strong reasoning skills to solve practical problems.
    • Proficiency with legal research tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and internet software.
    • Must pass background check and drug test prior to employment.
    • Valid driver's license required.
