Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our Retail Services company in Carmel, CA. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, exceptional attention to detail, and proven experience using QuickBooks to manage financial records and support day-to-day accounting operations. This role will play an integral part in maintaining the financial health of the business, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the company's growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily accounting tasks, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and general ledger (GL) maintenance.
  • Process and reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and expense reports using QuickBooks.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including preparing journal entries and supporting schedules.
  • Accurately track and record company transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and standards.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Support budget preparation and financial forecasting processes for business planning.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team on tax preparation, audit requests, and compliance reporting requirements.
  • Monitor inventory and sales data for accurate financial reporting and reconciliation.
  • Assist HR or payroll teams with employee timesheets and payroll processing.
  • Communicate regularly with cross-functional departments to streamline accounting and financial processes.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience in retail or a similar industry, preferred.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online or Desktop, with heavy experience in managing accounts, generating reports, and performing reconciliations.
  • Understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and bookkeeping best practices.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (e.g., pivot tables and VLOOKUPs).
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly.
  • Experience in inventory or point-of-sale (POS) accounting systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with financial reporting tools or ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of tax laws and familiarity with audits in the retail sector.
  • Previous experience working with multi-location retail stores or franchises.
