Job Summary:

The SVP, Laboratory Operations is a key member of the executive leadership team at our company, responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of clinical laboratory operations with a focus on genetic testing services. This role requires a visionary and operationally disciplined leader with deep clinical and regulatory expertise in laboratory diagnostics. The SVP will ensure scientific excellence, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and continuous innovation across all lab functions. This leader will play a central role in supporting our strategic growth by aligning laboratory capabilities with current and emerging market needs in the field of genetic diagnostics.

Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in clinical laboratory operations, with emphasis in genetic or molecular diagnostics
  • Doctorate (PhD, MD, DO, or PharmD) in a relevant field preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary laboratory teams, including hiring, developing, and retaining top scientific and operational talent
  • Prior experience overseeing high-complexity laboratory testing, including LDTs, NGS, and clinical-grade interpretation workflows
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change, develop high-performing team cultures, and scale laboratory operations through periods of rapid growth
  • Demonstrated success leading laboratory teams through growth, automation, and regulatory audits (e.g., CLIA, CAP, NYSDOH, CMS)
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory bodies and managing quality assurance and compliance systems
  • Proven ability to align laboratory strategy with commercial and clinical objectives in a high-growth environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational and Scientific Leadership:
  • Provide executive oversight of all clinical lab operations, including molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, sequencing, and laboratory informatics
  • Maintain and elevate our scientific and diagnostic excellence in rare and complex genetic testing
  • Serve as the CLIA Laboratory Director or collaborate closely with one, ensuring regulatory compliance and quality of test results
  • Lead the design and implementation of quality systems and ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, NYSDOH, CMS, and FDA guidelines

  • Strategic and Cross-Functional Alignment:
  • Develop long-term laboratory strategies that align with our innovation, scalability, and market goals
  • Partner with executive leadership on new test development, lab expansions, automation initiatives, and strategic partnerships
  • Collaborate with product, medical, and commercial teams to ensure lab capabilities meet current and future clinical needs
  • Quality, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement:
  • Oversee all laboratory audits, inspections, and accreditations with full accountability for successful outcomes
  • Implement quality control and quality assurance initiatives to improve accuracy, turnaround time (TAT), and customer satisfaction
  • Foster a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous learning within the laboratory environment
  • Team Development and Leadership:
  • Build and lead high-performing, multidisciplinary laboratory teams across clinical, operations, and informatics functions
  • Establish clear performance expectations, ensuring accountability, engagement, and continuous professional growth for all team members
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and innovation, with an emphasis on employee engagement and retention
  • Innovation and Operational Excellence:
  • Drive adoption of new technologies and automation to enhance testing capacity, reduce errors, and improve throughput
  • Guide the transition of lab-developed tests (LDTs) into compliant, scalable diagnostic services
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to reduce cost per test while maintaining clinical excellence
