Our Senior Transportation Managers play a crucial role in exceeding expectations and providing a superb customer experience; critical to Amazon's success, which is built on a foundation of customer obsession and innovation. This position is a multi-faceted role requiring the ability to balance strategy and execution. The Senior Transportation Manager is responsible for all aspects of the operations of the TOM teams within a specific node and may include responsibilities for stand-alone sites as well. You will lead a dynamic team of Operations and Area Managers to achieve operational excellence through coaching and mentoring the team; driving employee engagement, and building leadership bench strength within the TOM organization.
Responsibilities include:
- Owning and delivering the operational budget for the functional area, including safety, productivity, financial and labor planning, and operational goals for TOM.
- Providing strategic long-term planning (3, 6, and 12 months), including labor planning, forecasting, and peak season planning.
- Driving continuous improvement projects to optimize operations and improve productivity, working on strategic projects with network-wide impact.
- Networking with other leaders to share process improvements, drive efficiencies, and cost savings.
- Establishing objectives and metrics for safety, quality, productivity, and customer experience.
- Setting clear goals for Operations and Area Managers, measuring performance, providing feedback, and holding leaders accountable.
- Mentoring and developing leaders and staff.
- Participating in recruiting efforts for associates and internal/external candidates.
- Collaborating with support staff to secure resources for projects and initiatives.
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or 2 years of Amazon experience.
- 7+ years of management experience in a manufacturing, production, distribution, or logistics environment.
- Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean methodologies.
- Experience with staffing lifecycle including interviewing, hiring, and performance management.
- Flexibility to work various hours including overnight, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field; MBA or Master's preferred.
- 10+ years of management experience in similar environments.
- Ability to handle changing priorities and stressful situations.
- Interest in long-term career development across multiple facilities.
- Leadership development training or participation.
- Experience leading operations with at least 100 staff.
- Proven ability to develop others into leadership roles.
