Overview

We are seeking a Sr Director, Project Management - SOM who will lead, plan, manage, and execute key strategic priorities and initiatives for the School of Medicine (SOM). Working in the Office of the Dean/CEO, the Sr. Director oversees a portfolio of key strategic projects that span all business units and mission areas. The Sr. Director will help develop systems and structures for organizational transformation, including strategic planning, execution, performance measurement and optimization, and risk management of implementation. The role leads change management to ensure successful adoption of new programs and processes across the organization, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. This role involves end-to-end ownership of complex initiatives, from framing the problem and building the plan to driving execution with cross-functional teams and senior leaders across the university, SOM, the Johns Hopkins Health System, and external partners. The position serves as a trusted advisor for senior leadership in the dean's office and will assist with change management, organizational readiness, performance, and strategy execution. Project team direct reporting responsibilities are included.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Initiatives & Project Management Leadership
  • Partner with the Executive Director to develop and enhance oversight of strategic planning and execution.
  • Serve as the accountable transformation lead for execution of strategic priorities with clear objectives, governance, and measurable outcomes.
  • Take a holistic view to address opportunities and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Translate executive direction into actionable project plans with goals, milestones, and ownership.
  • Lead high-impact, cross-functional strategic initiatives across mission and business areas.
  • Build and manage matrix teams to support program delivery.
  • Define scope for external consultants when needed and manage to maximize ROI.
  • Identify and manage program delivery risks; develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support business case development through structured analysis and research.
  • Develop concise presentations and briefing documents for senior leadership.
  • Facilitate decision-making and alignment across units by managing input from multiple stakeholders.
  • Build relationships across clinical, academic, research, operational, and corporate teams.
  • Navigate ambiguity, break down complex problems, and identify next steps.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, clarity, and deliverable follow-through.

  • Supervise project management staff and direct project team oversight.
  • Manage Administrative Residents and Fellows.
  • Ensure compliance with fiscal policies and budget management related to projects.
  • Technical Qualifications and Specialized Certifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Access for analysis and presentation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Ten years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Healthcare marketing and business development experience.
  • Experience in program development in an academic medical center, higher education, or corporate environment.
  • Project Management Professional Certification.

Compensation and Benefits Disclosures

This salary range does not include all components of the School of Medicine's compensation program. The position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Exact compensation will depend on factors including location, skills, experience, and qualifications.

Classified Title: Sr. Director Project Management-SOM. Location: School of Medicine Campus. Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30AM - 5:00PM. FLSA Status: Exempt.
