The purpose of the ExpoR&D Sr. Director – AI and Automation Transformation, is to lead the AI and Automation strategy, planning, and implementation across the ExploR&D organization. This role will lead the AI and Automation workstream for ExploR&D and will partner closely with ExploR&D Leaders to create a roadmap and measurable value targets, aiming to increase the speed, efficiency and capacity of the organization through AI and automation. This role will be a key leader on the ExploR&D IT Enterprise core team, providing insight and technical contributions to the overall ExploR&D IT Enterprise strategy, ensuring alignment between AI and automation transformation with the enterprise. The ExploR&D AI and Automation Transformation Sr. Director will report to the Chorus Clinical Operations Associate Vice President.
Job Responsibilities:
- Accelerate the AI transformation agenda by partnering with ExploR&D peers to manage the portfolio of AI and automation transformation projects in clinical settings.
- Work with leaders across Lilly and LRL, as well as within ExploR&D, to identify priority areas where AI and automation can accelerate or create efficiencies in drug discovery and development, and where ExploR&D can help accelerate change.
- Orchestrate, design, and deliver the underlying data foundations that powers AI, reporting insights, other applications, and integrations between ExploR&D Enterprise Systems.
- Design and implement scalable data ecosystems that support advanced analytics and machine learning. This includes integrating diverse data sources from clinical trials, real-world data, and other relevant sources.
- Create policies and systems that improve data accessibility for various stakeholders while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. Facilitate the development of self-service tools and platforms that empower end-users to extract insights efficiently.
- Regularly coordinate with LRL IT and cybersecurity teams to ensure that data infrastructure meets the highest standards of performance and security.
- Operationalize and manage ML pipelines, server/cluster utilization and loads for server operations.
- Plan and prioritize based on work activities, lead group priorities, and address issues that arise in the normal course of business.
- Collaborate with ExploR&D Business and other Tech@Lilly stakeholders to improve ExploR&D's capacity through AI and automation products and capabilities.
- Reinforce compliance and ethics expectations, develop team objectives, handle performance, provide coaching and feedback, and create pathways for development.
- Ensure effective knowledge management practices are implemented.
- Maintain an external focus to learn from and shape the external environment, ensuring ExploR&D's competitive advantage. Oversee external partners to extend the team's capacity.
- Develop persuasive cases and documentation to support and prioritize digital investments, ensuring on-time delivery.
- Partner with various delivery internal organizations to ensure high quality and timely solution delivery.
Basic Requirements:
- Master's in biology or science field in combination with computer science, drug development, or another related field, AND least 5 years of clinical development knowledge and/or experiences.
- Demonstrated history of implementation of AI/ML automation solution in clinical development and operations.
- Prior experience in the design and successful implementation of technology platforms, products, and solutions.
Additional preferences:
- Prior leadership experience.
- Work experience and familiarity in cloud, AI, and/or automation-related technologies.
- 5 to 10 years of formal/informal leadership training experience.
- Broad understanding of clinical processes and applications, and/or pharma industry knowledge and experience.
- Validated leadership in business relationship management, facilitating deep integration and strategic development.
- Shown ability to translate business requirements into appropriate systems and processes.
- Demonstrable ability to influence peers and management to drive project and process outcomes.
- Superb communication skills with the ability to remain calm and composed during inspections and effectively conveying our compliance with the quality system.
Additional Information:
- Position requires 10% Travel.
- Position preferred to be located in Indianapolis, Indiana, working in a hybrid model.
- Core work hours, Monday- Friday, On site minimally in building 28 at LCC, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
