Job Description

MicroHealth is seeking a skilled Sr. Database Solutions Architect (IBM DB2) to support our client in Vienna, VA. This is a remote position with potential travel to client sites in Rockville, MD, and Albuquerque, NM.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Define infrastructure for design and integration of internet computing systems by analyzing information requirements, studying business operations and user-interface requirements, and directing development of physical database.
  • Determine platform architecture, technology, and tools.
  • Optimize and tune database performance utilizing advanced monitoring tools, query tuning techniques, database and OS parameter adjustments, hardware recommendations, and operational enhancements.
  • Provide metrics on database performance.
  • Document and communicate all optimizations and parameter adjustments to ensure consistency across environments.
  • Identify performance improvements and collaborate with development staff to implement and test recommendations.
  • Plan and install upgrades of database management system software to enhance performance.
  • Interact with IT staff to recommend and enforce database standards, ensure compliance, and maintain security.
  • Support and troubleshoot database operations including patching, event monitoring, incident management, backup & recovery, and maintenance.
  • Work with stakeholders to identify requirements for database repositories supporting projects and operational improvements.
  • Plan for complex database functionalities including vendor, product, version, storage, hardware, structure, performance, security, availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Demonstrate database functionalities such as performance, security, and reliability.
  • Lead, plan, and execute projects and initiatives, managing high-risk and high-profile outcomes.
  • Design database applications to enable efficient data access and transfer.
  • Motivate team members and remove barriers to progress.
Skills
  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks with broad professional understanding of database administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of database technologies, operating systems, and industry trends, including design, configuration, tuning, and support.
  • Experience as a database administrator or similar role with broad expertise in planning, designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing database systems.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and DB2.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, designs, risks, and systems.
  • Industry certifications in SQL Server, Oracle SQL, or related databases are preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and independent judgment skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with adaptability to changing needs.
  • Proven ability to work with uncertainty, resistance, and challenges, translating them into impact and mitigation strategies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Tools: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, Advanced Text Editor SQL.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with SQL and DB2.
  • Preferred: Microsoft SQL Server certifications, NoSQL, Graph DB experience.
