Job Overview

The Associate General Counsel/Senior Associate General Counsel position, under the general direction of the Fairview Health Services Chief Legal Officer, is an integral member of a highly talented team. This role provides valued legal counsel in support of the Solution's business Unit. Reviews and advises officials of the most complex proposed legislation which might have a major effect on the organization. Advises top management personnel on the legal ramifications of policy decisions or current organization practices. Acts as a liaison with outside counsel. Represents organization at hearings or trials, conferences, meetings or functions and may negotiate with other attorneys/officials representing other organizations or agencies.

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of commercial contracts, data privacy, intellectual property, and antitrust principles.The incumbent will conduct regular anti-trust market analyses to ensure that all Solution projects and products comply with applicable anti-trust laws.As the subject matter expert, this role will contribute to the development of Solutions products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in the selection, testing, benchmarking, and deployment of new and existing technology resources and tools, whether they are built in-house, purchased, or developed for sale.
  • This position involves advising on the management of sensitive company, consumer, and patient data.
  • The role requires the development of a working understanding of how healthcare-related IT products and services are developed for sale and the process for bringing these products to market.
  • Providing knowledge and practical legal advice regarding any number of federal, state and local law topics related to assigned business units.
  • Working with clients at all levels in the organization to understand issues and priorities, apply sound legal analysis, and identify actionable solutions that meet client needs while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Fairview policies.
  • Develop, revise and mature policies and procedures supporting assigned business units and train management and executives on an ongoing basis.
  • Handle multiple legal matters and coordinate with other members of the Fairview legal and compliance teams on regulatory, risk, compliance, and operational issues.
  • Stay apprised of important changes in law and regulation and counsel business leaders and other leaders on such changes.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with a strong academic record
  • Admission to the Bar in state of MN allowing ability to practice in MN within six months of hire
  • 4+ years recent and relevant experience within a law firm or as an in-house counsel
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to develop solutions and recommendations quickly and accurately.
  • Excellent judgment and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Ability to prioritize projects, stay on task, and manage workload in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Pragmatic and business-focused; ability to work collaboratively to effectively manage legal risks

The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical.
