The City of Leesburg is offering a job opportunity in the Recreation Department. The salary range is $18.80 - $27.26 hourly for a full-time position located in Leesburg, Florida. The job is non-exempt and opened on April 28, 2025.
Nature Of WorkThe purpose of this job is to perform skilled/manual work functions in City park and recreation areas. Incumbents will be responsible for the maintenance using chemical spray equipment, power tools, and other field equipment. Works with a variety of hand tools and small machinery such as a tractor, edger, aerator, box blade, irrigation equipment, ball field lining equipment, pressure washer, etc. This position typically performs a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod cutting and installation, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, athletic field maintenance, field irrigation systems installation and repair, painting and power washing and completing logs or routine records. The employee may drive a vehicle to sites as needed. The employee will be required to work indoors and outdoors, year-round in all types of weather conditions. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.
Essential Job FunctionsThe essential job functions include:
Requires a high school diploma or GED; and two years or more of routine manual work experience. Experience maintaining athletic field and grounds care, fertilizer/pesticide spraying, and maintenance are desirable. Knowledge of fertilizer and pesticide application along with basic grounds care and maintenance procedures including mowing, edging, raking, and weeding. Methods, equipment, and materials used in grounds keeping work. Safe work procedures in the operation of hand and power tools. The ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with other employees and the public. Operate a personal computer in an effective manner consistent with requirements of the position. Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Requires current Florida Pesticide license, or the ability to obtain a Florida Pesticide license within the first year of employment. Ability to obtain Green Industries, Best Practices Management (GI-BMP) certification within one year of hire.
