POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Regional Sports Director, the Sports Lead is responsible for providing Cause-Driven management and operations focused around adult and youth sports. This position will include associate supervision, program development, program area facility management/maintenance, program optimization and fulfillment. The Sports Lead is also responsible for supporting, training, supervising, and leading their associate team in superior levels of member service and engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead adult and youth sports at center level

  • Focus on quality experiences and engagement within programs, services, and activities

  • Help support onboarding new Associates

  • Foster an environment that is positive and motivating to families, children, and peers

  • Communicate with center leadership and Sports Director to effectively coordinate and communicate facility usage for assigned programs

  • Ensure programs are staffed and planned accordingly

  • Organize gym closet and keep inventory of sports equipment

  • Print class rosters for Sports Instructors

  • Promote leagues & classes

  • Incorporate the four character values of the Y: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct

  • Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community

  • Attend and actively participate in all meetings as assigned

  • Enforce all policies and procedures

  • Assist in all other areas as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Sports Lead will meet the qualifications set forth by the Y in Central Maryland. The Associate shall be of good character and reputation; capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities; capable of accepting training and supervision; and capable of communicating effectively both orally and in writing as applicable to the job responsibility. Minimum qualifications include:

  • Experience developing and implementing programming.

  • Two or more years of experience as a leader or coach, or equivalent in programming.

  • Flexible Schedule: days, nights, weekends and traveling to other centers.

  • Proficient computer skills.

  • Current CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certification (or within 30 days of hire).

  • Y New Staff Orientation and child abuse prevention training.

  • Knowledge of safety rules for the program area.

  • Excellent speaking ability, and have an outgoing personality, enabling him/her to relate well to participants.

  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with all associates.

  • Ability to move, set up and store equipment.

  • At least 21 years of age.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Stand in one area for extended periods of time.

  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time.

  • Ascend and descend steps.

  • Occasional outdoor activities.

  • Lift and move up to 50lbs.

Accountability:

Accountable for completion of assigned goals as measured by the number of people served, cause driven measures, service satisfaction scores, operating results, and supervisor evaluation of assigned duties.
