Location: Johnson City, NY 13790

Assignment Type: Contract (20 weeks)

Start Date: August 18, 2025

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 40 hours/week | 8-hour days

Setting: Inpatient Acute Care

Bill Rates:

  • Local: $58/hour
  • Travel: $63/hour

Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides diagnostic and therapeutic services for hospital-based inpatient cases, ensuring timely, accurate, and effective evaluation and treatment of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders. The role focuses on serving patients of all age groups in a trauma center environment, including specialties such as neuro, cardiac, ICU, oncology, and general med/surg units.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and implement medical prescriptions and speech-language therapy treatment plans.
  • Evaluate patients' speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing functions using accepted measurement tools.
  • Provide treatment and re-evaluation, adjusting interventions based on patient progress and response.
  • Administer and interpret video fluoroscopic swallow studies.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, outcomes, and progress.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, patient care planning, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients and families on communication and swallowing strategies.
  • Supervise and provide direction to CFYs, SLP students, and departmental staff as needed.
  • Uphold professional standards in patient confidentiality and regulatory documentation.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives and maintain required CEUs for licensure.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Active New York State SLP License at the time of submission
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from ASHA or an eligible Clinical Fellowship (CF) candidate
  • BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in acute care hospital settings
  • Proficiency in performing swallow assessments, cognitive-communication evaluations, and video fluoroscopy studies
  • Familiarity with dysphagia and neurogenic communication disorders
  • Certification as Teacher of Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) is a plus

Facility Notes:

This is a trauma center with high acuity patients. Experience in a dynamic, inpatient hospital setting is strongly preferred. Candidate must be capable of handling a varied caseload, including neuro, cardiac, ICU, and oncology patients.
