Specimen Processor - University of Pittsburgh Medical Center : Job Details

Demonstrate a service-oriented approach by conveying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in all work situations. Monitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries to ensure timely specimen processing. Investigate and resolve specimen issues or requesting errors, and complete quality forms as needed. Separate specimens by centrifugation, label aliquot tubes, transfer samples per policy, and store appropriately. Determine and enter specimen receive times into the computer system and answer telephone inquiries accurately. Follow all health and safety regulations for handling biohazardous materials and sharps to prevent exposure. Verify specimens with requisitions or labels to ensure accuracy and request in the Laboratory Information System if needed. Receive, sort, prioritize, and share specimens according to lab policy, and notify the supervisor of issues or requests requiring clarification. Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
