Job Description

Purpose: The Specialist - Information Technology will design, implement, and support technology initiatives. To accomplish these tasks, the Specialist - Information Technology will coordinate with technicians and work closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.

Responsible to: Director of IT Operations

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a contact person for technology questions and service needs.
  • Work effectively with district personnel to ensure a consistent standard of excellence for technology support.
  • Assist building staff, students, or others with technology support onsite and remotely via management software or telephone.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of gSuite, Active Directory, Azure, MDM Management, and future SAAS platforms.
  • Provide high-level support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for district hardware and software.
  • Participate in and provide training for district staff to maximize efficiency with district technology equipment/software.
  • Assist with inventory management of technology equipment and supplies.
  • Support the installation, maintenance, and support of district projects as assigned.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of student and staff data systems.
  • Complete certifications supporting district infrastructure.
  • Track technology work requests and projects, completing or referring as needed.
  • Gather, input, and organize data pertinent to technology requests and projects.
  • Supervise small teams to achieve district technology goals.
  • Develop strategies for installation, maintenance, and support of district technology initiatives.
  • Assess ongoing hardware/firmware needs to ensure efficient equipment use; review and recommend purchases or upgrades for optimal growth.
  • Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  • Prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasional physical exertion to move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
  • Occasional climbing and balancing.
  • Work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Work in noisy and crowded environments.
  • General Responsibilities:

  • Support and facilitate the mission and vision of Emporia Public Schools.
  • Support development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum as outlined by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.
  • Obtain equipment, resources, and materials through processes outlined by the Assistant Superintendent of Business.
  • Support policies for licensed and classified personnel as outlined by the Associate Superintendent of Personnel.
  • Utilize district professionals and outside consultants to support district operations.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of students at all times.
  • Maintain documentation related to program funding, including grants and awards.
  • Stay updated on new technologies to support student learning, data management, and communication.
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements from state and federal law.
  • Uphold board policies, administrative procedures, and school rules, including acceptable use, harassment policies, child abuse reporting, and health and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, staff, and community organizations regarding student progress and needs.
  • Interact professionally with students, parents, and staff, demonstrating tolerance, patience, and sensitivity.
  • Maintain professionalism through work habits such as punctuality, accurate recordkeeping, and timely reporting.
  • Respect confidentiality of student, parent, and staff records and information.
  • Maintain safe, organized workspaces.
  • Be prepared to implement the Building Crisis Plan and participate in response drills.
  • Respond productively to change.
  • Promote positive aspects of the school program to the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
