The Specialist is senior member of the global team, responsible for increasing consignment and buying activity, ensuring a healthy pipeline of new business for auction and private sales, as well as overseeing sale functions of cataloguing and preparing consigned property for sale.

How You'll Make an Impact

Business Getting & Selling

  • Proactively business-get in specialist areas of expertise, to curate successful auction sales, both live and online, in accordance with agreed sale strategies

  • Develop strong and trusted relationships with clients in all categories (private collectors, dealers, advisors, institutions), including the ability to work with major clients

  • Work with the international department management team as well as cross-department resources to develop strategic opportunities related to auction, private sale and eCommerce

  • Act as a representative of Christie's and build alliances and networks of key influencers in the market

  • Attend events, exhibitions, art fairs locally, domestically and internationally, as applicable

  • Meet with clients on-site and off-site

  • Proactively sell the global sales, targeting clients in conjunction with the Client Strategy department, contacting clients for potential interest, and registering their bids at auction

Pre & Post Sale Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the Trusts, Estates and Appraisals department, working on appraisals as a means of generating new long-term business opportunities and reconnecting with inactive clients

  • Liaise with the Proposals department to develop strategies and proposals to win competitive business

  • Work with Specialist team on art expertise, pricing, cataloguing, research, client relationships and standards of client service

  • Participate in departmental property review sessions, taking on research assignments for the team as needed; write essays and additional materials needed for selling the property

  • Research property including authenticity, bibliography, provenance and exhibition history

  • Ensure all property entered for sale meets standards for attribution, provenance, cultural property and condition reports as appropriate

  • Review incoming photo inquiries with the team to determine sale potential

  • Work with team to ensure the successful completion of photography, layout, and final sign-off of each catalogue and sale

  • Work with Global Head of Department and relevant teams on pre-sale exhibition set-up

  • Work with Marketing, Press, and Events teams to coordinate marketing efforts and tours to source and sell property, targeting traditional and new buyers

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continually update own specialist knowledge

  • Develop and mentor junior specialists, where applicable

  • Participate in Telephone Bidding with clients during auctions

  • Other duties as determined by manager

What you'll bring to the team

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in applicable art market roles

  • Preferred 5+ years work experience in the category

  • Knowledge of the auction business

  • Robust experience in appraising property and business-getting

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication

  • Superior client service skills

  • Ability to excel within a team environment as well as being able to independently project manage
