The Solutions Architect performs a crucial role in designing, implementing, and optimizing solutions that enable seamless data exchange across diverse campus technology systems. The primary focus is on integrating different platforms—student information systems, learning management systems, finance, HR, and third-party applications—using robust API integration, with flat file data transfers as a complementary method where necessary. This position ensures data integrity, security, and reliability, helping institutions achieve operational excellence and deliver enhanced student experiences.

This is a part time, temporary position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2026.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with IT leadership, business analysts, and stakeholders to assess integration needs and develop optimal architectural solutions.
  • Assist the Ellucian IT project team with implementing Ellucian Ethos, Data Connect, and Intelligent Learning Platforms.
  • Assist with the development of Ellucian Insights, ingestion of third-party data, and creating an archival strategy for legacy data.
  • Assist with the development of Ellucian Experience and delivered content configurations.
  • Design, document, and implement integration approaches with an emphasis on API integration (RESTful, SOAP, or proprietary), while supporting flat file data transfers (CSV, TXT, XML, etc.) as needed.
  • Assist with the integration lifecycle, including requirements gathering, data mapping, interface development, testing, deployment, and knowledge transfer to IT staff.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, such as data flow diagrams, integration specifications, and support materials.
  • Establish best practices to ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with regulations (e.g., FERPA)
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve integration issues, coordinating incident response and root cause analysis as required.
  • Train and mentor technical staff in both API integration and flat file data transfer techniques and tools.
  • Advise on emerging technologies and integration strategies relevant to higher education IT.
  • Assist the Ellucian project team with data migration tasks.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in systems integration and development.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing API-based integrations (REST, SOAP) for system interoperability.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Javascript and Powershell.
  • Strong proficiency with programming languages such as Java and Python.
  • Strong familiarity with flat file data transfer protocols and payload formats (e.g., SFTP, CSV, XML, JSON).
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (MS SQL and Postgres SQL) and ETL concepts.
  • Strong understanding of data warehouse technologies including data warehouse architecture, configuration, data models, and integration workflows.
  • Experience with ETL tools.
  • Proven experience developing integration strategies and governance frameworks to ensure data quality, consistency, and security.
  • Experience with developing strategies for data archiving, data purging, and application/database decommissioning.
  • Experience with middleware apps, iPaaS, or integration platforms.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project management, Agile, and ITILv4 experience.
  • Knowledge of identity management providers, authentication, and authorization protocols (SAMLs, CAS, OAuth, LDAP).
  • Experience with enterprise architecture methodology and frameworks (e.g. TOGAF).
