The Position
The Solution Architect on ICS (Industrial Control Systems) is responsible for acting as a technical lead and trusted advisor, ensuring high availability, optimal performance, and reliable operation of the Control Systems at API M2-US.
This role involves design, integration, and support troubleshooting, operation and maintenance of Control Systems (e.g., PCS for Process Control and BAS for Building Automation), ensuring high level of compliance with relevant standards and seamless integration and optimization of Control Systems with key systems such as ERP, LIMS, RTMS, and MES solutions.
The Solution Architect will work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, facilities, process engineering, quality, MSAT (Manufacturing Science and Technology), to enhance operational efficiency by design and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Additionally, the Solution Architect on ICS will identify and share best practices, leveraging its expertise in Control Systems to drive automation, enable data-driven decision-making, and ensure the highest standards of production quality, safety, and efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement comprehensive control systems solutions, including the design of control strategies, selection of appropriate hardware and software components, and programming of control algorithms.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to Control Systems, including hardware failures, software bugs, and network communication errors.
- Continuously analyze and optimize Control Systems to enhance performance, improve efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize downtime.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, IT professionals, and business stakeholders, to identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative solutions.
- Define, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and usage metrics for ICS, ensuring systems operate within intended parameters.
- Manage relationships with vendors and contractors, focusing on Automation Systems Integrators and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) suppliers.
- Lead and manage projects, ensuring they meet milestones and deliverables as outlined in project plans.
- Ensure all solutions comply with relevant industry standards and regulations; and implement and maintain robust cybersecurity measures to protect Control Solutions from potential threats and vulnerabilities.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a compliant and ethical manner and in accordance with all applicable healthcare laws, regulations, and industry codes.
- Incorporate the Novo Nordisk Way and 10 Essentials in all activities and interactions with others.

Qualifications
- Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Automation or related field required.
- Master's degree in science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Automation or related field preferred.
- Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with nine (9) years' experience with facility/utility design and construction in Plant Automation/Controls Engineering required.
- Master's degree with seven (7) years' experience with facility/utility design and construction in Plant Automation/Controls Engineering preferred.
- Experience overseeing the entire lifecycle of ICS projects, from conceptualization to implementation and maintenance.
- Certified Automation Professional (CAP) or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
- Certified Automation Project Manager Specialist or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
- Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional Certification (GICSP), or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
- Experience in the control system validation in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is a plus.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and able to translate strategy into ambitious goals with clear priorities.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Strong knowledge and experience with Instrumentation & Control Device operation and troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate teams of engineers, and other professionals.
Physical Requirements
Domestic and international travel will vary based on business need and travel restrictions. This position may lift up to 33lbs/15kg occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
