Software Engineering Manager - Next Ventures : Job Details

Next Ventures are partnered with a local sports entity to hire a Software Development Team Lead. This is a hybrid role based in New York City.

The ideal candidate brings experience in:

• Backend Development (Java) – scalable, high-performance services with strong testing, error handling, and distributed systems expertise
• API Design & Development – RESTful APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth/SAML, and versioning best practices
• Performance Optimization – caching strategies, CDNs (Cloudflare), and monitoring frameworks to ensure speed and reliability
• Testing & Reliability – unit/integration tests, API testing frameworks, and performance monitoring for robust systems
• Technical Leadership – mentoring developers, leading design/architecture discussions, code reviews, and documentation

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend development, including 3+ years in API design
• Strong knowledge of RESTful principles, HTTP protocols, and web standards
• Proven track record building scalable, maintainable APIs

Preferred Experience

• Apache Cayenne ORM and Agrest REST API frameworks
• API gateway patterns and service mesh concepts
• Data processing with Apache Spark DataFrame API, DFLib, or Apache Flink
• Event-driven architectures
• Contributions to open-source projects
• Python programming/scripting
• Cloud platforms (AWS, S3, Kinesis, Dynamo)

We are offering a base pay range of $160,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr.
