About the Role

Canonical is seeking passionate open source enthusiasts to join our Ubuntu Engineering Server Team. You will help build the distro of the future, maintaining and packaging software such as webservers, databases, virtualization, and containerization stacks. This is an exciting opportunity to work with experienced engineers and contribute to the world's #1 operating system in public clouds.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate proactively within a distributed team
• Foster a seamless software ecosystem for all Ubuntu users
• Evaluate contributions to maintain high-quality standards
• Shape the future of Ubuntu through new ideas and advice
• Collaborate with upstream projects and support customers
• Debug issues in open source and team-maintained code
• Maintain Ubuntu Server packages, including web servers, databases, virtualization, containerization, package management, and language runtimes

Qualifications

• Passion for technology and working with talented people
• Curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable
• Soft skills: passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, self-motivated
• Interest or experience in open source contribution
• Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, STEM, or related fields
• Understanding of reproducibility and testing; comfortable with containers or VMs
• Strong fundamentals in C/C++, Python, Rust, or Go
• Interest in distro packaging and package management
• Interest in containerization, virtualization, and cloud services
