Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary will depend on factors such as the scope, complexity, and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other employment conditions. Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentives as part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program.

What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers is seeking a Software Engineer I to join our organization as we grow and transform our technology landscape. The individual will complete intermediate end-to-end engineering tasks for specific system assignments, including developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system design specifications. They will also participate in troubleshooting, impact analysis, and escalation as needed.
What Will You Do?
- Perform analysis, design, development, and configuration functions as well as define technical requirements for assignments of intermediate complexity.
- Participate with the team to analyze, assess, and resolve defects and incidents of intermediate complexity, escalating appropriately.
- Work within team guidelines to independently tackle well-scoped problems.
- Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Three years of programming/development experience preferred.
- Expertise in CA Gen and COBOL for application development, with experience in ENDEVOR for version control.
- Extensive experience with DB2, including concepts such as binds, indexes, and utilities. Basic understanding of IMS and Oracle databases is preferred.
- Proficient in SQL for database management and manipulation, with some experience in AQT query tools.
- Working knowledge of CICS, IBM MQs, and RACF for security management is preferred.
- Experience with Jira, SailPoint, and ServiceNow is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with extensive experience in testing and documentation processes.
- Delivery skills including the ability to deliver work steadily and predictably, decompose work into small releases, and contribute to tradeoff discussions.
- Domain expertise with the ability to understand technical concepts, demonstrate cooperation, and possess in-depth knowledge of immediate systems.
- Proven problem-solving skills, including debugging and recognizing issues in unfamiliar code or systems.
- Strong communication skills for clear interaction, documentation, and collaboration.
- Intermediate leadership skills with self-motivation for personal growth.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- One year of programming/development experience.
