Job Location : New York,NY, USA
Job ID: 2960494 | Amazon.com Services LLC
As an SDE II on the Peripheral Infrastructure Engineering Services (PIES) team, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining hi-performance software systems that manage hundreds of thousands of peripheral devices across Amazon's Fulfillment Centers (FCs). Your responsibilities include designing and implementing solutions for managing various peripherals such as printers, cameras, scanners, and robotic devices that are attached to edge compute client devices. You'll work autonomously while delivering high-quality code that spans the full software lifecycle, from customer requirements gathering to deployment and operations, ensuring that peripheral management components effectively handle device registration, DHCP services, and firmware updates.
In this role, you'll be expected to take ownership of significant portions of the peripheral device management infrastructure, including the development of APIs and interfaces that enable seamless integration between peripheral devices and the PIES client software. You'll collaborate with customers and stakeholders to understand their peripheral device management needs, design solutions that align with the Unified Workcell Compute (UWC) architectural strategy, and create clear documentation that enables other team members to maintain and extend your code. Your work will directly impact the software quality and customer experience across hundreds of thousands of devices in Amazon's operations facilities.
As an SDE II with PIES, you'll also contribute to the operational excellence of peripheral device management by participating in on-call rotations, troubleshooting issues, and implementing permanent fixes for root causes. You'll leverage UWC's monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities to develop and maintain dashboards that surface peripheral device health and performance metrics. Additionally, you'll mentor other team members on peripheral device management best practices, participate in code reviews, and help train new team members on the PIES architecture. You'll need to balance new feature development with operational work while ensuring that solutions adhere to UWC's tenets, particularly the Cattle Not Pets approach to device management and the focus on Infrastructure as Code.
