Salary: $59,147.00 Annually Location : Manteo, NC Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 2025-00758 Department: DSS Administration Opening Date: 07/28/2025 About the Position Performs intermediate skilled human support work providing support to families, ensuring the safety of children and vulnerable adults, connecting disadvantaged families with services, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the assigned supervisor. Position requires work outside of normal business hours, including, on a rotating basis, weekend, and holiday on-call coverage. - Interviews clients to assess needs; determines what programs or resources client is eligible to received; evaluates client's financial situation; completes applications for various programs needed.
- Provides alternatives to budget and planning to improve wellbeing.
- Refers and/or connects client with additional resources and programs as appropriate.
- Submits vouchers for payment; makes payments to providers.
- Develops a goal plan and strategies for clients for crisis resolution; evaluates client's compliance with program requirements to determine eligibility of benefits.
- Provides ongoing support, education and counseling to families.
- Monitors, reviews and maintains direct client contact in both intake and on-going case management.
- Provides budgeting education and provides suggestions for self-sustainability.
- Completes various general administrative and family support tasks as required.
- Responds to family crises.
- Performs other assigned duties.
Position Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of social, economic and health problems.
- Thorough knowledge of social institutions and the methods of the helping process.
- Thorough knowledge of individual and groups behavior.
- Ability to identify social problems and needs to assess the ability of individuals and families to utilize services in problem solving.
- Ability to plan and organize work and to understand and interpret laws, policies, and regulations; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility.
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, court staff, law enforcement staff, mental and medical health providers, social agencies, and the public.
Education, Experience and Supplemental Information
- Bachelor's degree in social work or related field.
- Moderate experience in human services, counseling, child development or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- NC Child Abuse and Neglect Training
