Location: Birmingham, AL 35233

Reports to: VP of Clinical Operations

Compensation:

  • Base Salary: $120,000 annually
  • Incentives: Up to $10,000 in quarterly bonuses ($2,500 per quarter), based on performance

Job Summary/Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Unit Manager to lead the overall management and operational oversight of a high-acuity rehabilitation unit weaning patients off vents to avoid discharges to LTAC settings.

The ideal candidate will coordinate and oversee an interdisciplinary clinical team, including Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech Therapy (ST), Respiratory Therapy (RT), and Case Management to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care while fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement and professional development.

Additionally, the Unit Manager acts as the primary liaison between the Rehab unit and the hospital, fostering effective communication and collaboration.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10+ years in a senior management role within an acute care or clinical setting
  • Experience including responsibilities for hiring, training, assigning work, and management performance of onsite and internal unit teams
  • Experience with case management and leading multi-disciplinary teams preferred
  • Proven track record of leadership in a multi-disciplinary healthcare environment

Education:

  • BSN required
  • MSN preferred

Certifications:

  • BLS, ACLS, CCRN preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer literacy a must with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and excel, database payroll management
  • Able to communicate with executive and professional level staff
  • Experience in developing operations standards, including developing training materials and documentation
  • Able to document employee performance and disciplinary actions

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor staffing schedules, patient outcomes, length of stay, decannulation rates, readmission rates, discharge planning efficiency and therapy metrics to ensure quality outcome standards are met.
  • Evaluate unit and staff performance to identity and implement operational and systemlevel improvements, ensuring compliance with Unit and hospital policies and procedures, while developing process plans, monitoring implementation and tracking progress towards measurable outcomes.
  • Support the prevention of hospital-acquired conditions through proactive staff education, policy adherence, and quality assurance initiatives, while disseminating education to ensure team alignment with quality improvement strategies.
  • Maintain adequate staffing by leading recruiting efforts and overseeing new hire orientation, ensuring staff are properly onboarded, introduced to unit protocols, and equipped for long-term success while ensuring the timely completion of all required documentation for compliance and record accuracy.
  • Responsible for staff's scheduling, payroll, onboarding, regular employee communications, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions, ensuring compliance with organizational policies in coordination with HR.
  • Support HR and departmental leaders with coaching, corrective actions and special events or functions as needed.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development by actively creating opportunities for team growth, including engagement of the Rehabilitation Supervisor and Respiratory Manager in appropriate meetings and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with hospital administration to develop and deliver staff education, training modules and training based on corporate initiatives, process enhancements, and quality improvement needs..
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, state licensing, staff competencies, required certifications, and hospital policy requirements by maintaining accurate documentation and licensing records.
  • Lead or support unit specific audit reporting, root case analysis, performance measures tracking and reporting both internally and with hospital partners on a regular basis.
  • Works with Patient Care Manager and VP, Clinical Operations in the daily and monthly reporting of staffing, as well as the Quality Statistics Dashboard.
  • Demonstrate ability to track, organize, and maintain accurate data records; effectively pulls relevant data into reports and presentations to support team goals and decisionmaking.
  • Identify patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, their families, and loved ones; educate patients and families on Healthcare's services, mission, and care approach to promote understanding and engagement in the care process. Ensure timely and empathetic communication with patients and families regarding care plans, therapies and discharge expectations, while resolving patient care needs through multidisciplinary team collaboration.
