One year of full-time paid experience as a Drafting Technician; **OR** Two (2) years of full-time experience working in a sign shop assisting in the sign production process; **AND** **ELIGIBLE PERSON(S)**

A High School Diploma or its equivalent; **AND**

A valid State of Michigan Driver's License and an acceptable, safe driving record. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON THE FRONT OF APPLICATION).

**DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES**

Under the direction of the Department Manager 3 (Sign Shop), the Sign Painter is responsible for all phases of the sign production process. The Sign Painter performs the following: layout signs from verbal or written instructions; make and set-up masters for screening, apply direct emulsion to screen material; reclaim or make permanent screens; and operate sign fabrication programs on the desk top computer; the Eagle automatic silk screen machine, the Allen Data Graph I-48t cutter and a Graphtec cutter, and the Flexi 7 & 10 computer programs. Sign Painters create signs that meet the Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices standard. Additionally, the Sign Painter will oversee the surplus supply of materials needed to perform daily duties, keep an accurate list of needed supplies, keep an inventory of the available signs in the sign shop and perform other assigned duties.
