Job DetailsDescriptionPosition SummaryThe Shipping Manager ensures that shipments arrive at their destinations on time and within budget. They coordinate incoming shipments, oversee the packaging of outgoing shipments, and negotiate transportation costs with carriers. They also supervise shipping department employees.Key Performance Areas (Essential Functions Of The Position)
- Negotiating the price of shipment transportation with carriers
- Keeping shipping operations within budget without compromising speed or efficiency
- Processing shipment documentation and inspecting completed orders
- Creating and implementing shipping policies and procedures
- Hiring, training, and supervising shipping employees
- Acting as a liaison between management, carriers, and shipping customers
- Collaborating with internal departments to optimize the flow of orders from preparation to shipment
- Documenting processes and reporting to management as required
- Evaluating carrier performance and resolving issues with orders and logistics
- Complying with shipping industry regulations and company policies
- Other duties as assigned

Experiences / Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or similar preferred
- More than five years' experience in the shipping industry
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Equipment driving experience – acquire or maintain certifications on required equipment
- Proficiency in electronic shipping software
- Extensive budgeting and reporting experience
- Knowledge of shipping industry regulations
Working ConditionsGeneral Manufacturing EnvironmentWork is regularly performed inside the plant and occasionally in the surrounding grounds and facilities. Because of this, employees are frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain and snow. Lighting varies based on the season, weather and conditions in the plant. Employees regularly work near moving mechanical parts, material handling equipment and are exposed to ergonomic hazards, noise and dust.Physical RequirementsThe physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.Work is fast paced, and employees are expected to perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor, therefore they must have excellent stamina, be in good physical condition and capable of handling objects up to 75 pounds in weight. Individuals must also have good eyesight, hearing and better than average coordination in order to keep up with production equipment.
