Salary: Level I: $2,675.66 - $3,197.66; Level II: $2,941.61 - $3,515.50, paid bi-weekly
Examinations: Written Examination (30%): May include knowledge of research methods and procedures necessary for the completion of comprehensive background investigations; applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations; investigative principles and techniques; interview techniques and proper report writing; basic principles and practices of personnel management related to applicant recruitment and selection procedures.
Oral Examination (Weight 70%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising training, education, experience, interest, and personal fitness for the position. The Human Resources Division may limit the number advancing to the oral exam to approximately the top 20, based upon the final earned results of the written exam. If the number of applicants successful on the written exam is insufficient to merit an oral exam, the written exam shall be weighted at 100%. Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards: Level I: Completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college or university AND one (1) year of investigative experience with a law enforcement agency, insurance company, law firm, or similar field. Investigative experience may substitute for the required education to a maximum substitution of one (1) year. You must have at least one year of investigative work experience. POST Background Investigation Course must be completed during the initial probation period.

Investigative experience may substitute for the required education to a maximum substitution of one (1) year. Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date. A background check may be conducted for this classification. Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense. This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
