What is a ServiceNow Administrator?
The ServiceNow Administrator plays a vital role in Central Hudson's digital transformation by supporting and optimizing the ServiceNow platform. This role focuses on maintaining core ITSM modules, improving workflow efficiency, and enabling automated self-service capabilities across the organization. The ServiceNow Administrator works with technical and business teams to translate user requirements, manages platform updates, and ensures smooth operation of key modules such as Incident, Change, Problem, and Service Catalog. With a strong understanding of ITIL processes and platform capabilities, the ServiceNow Administrator helps drive continuous improvement and user satisfaction. As a platform steward and problem-solver, this individual contributes to the strategic roadmap, supports integrations, and ensures ServiceNow remains reliable, scalable, and aligned with enterprise goals.
What does a ServiceNow Administrator do?
Configures and launches new ServiceNow applications, modules, and UI/Workflows, including regular plugin verification and updates
Implements the latest version of ServiceNow, manages update sets and version control
Develops integrations and process automation using the App Engine and Integration Hub
Utilizes Flow Designer, Workflow Editor, and scoped applications to streamline automation and user experience
Ensures consistent configuration and reliable operation across all ServiceNow environments, including development, testing, sandbox, and production
Manages ServiceNow Security Center, hotfixes, patches, and supports audits and compliance
Collaborates with administrators and stakeholders to develop solutions, manage configuration changes, and lead workshops to promote platform adoption
Identifies system or process deficiencies and recommends solutions
Creates reports and dashboards using Performance Analytics to support data-driven decisions and improvement
Works in a SCRUM / Agile framework to deliver and drive incremental improvements to employee experience and operations
Maintains and continuously improves processes, standards, policies, working methods, and tools.
Participates in ongoing production support and end user support
Delivers user training and documentation, both technical and end-user
Participates in special projects to improve processes and technologies
Demonstrates a commitment to organizational values, including integrity, collaboration, and a customer-first mindset
Provides support for storm restoration efforts
What does it take to be a ServiceNow Administrator?
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Business or a related field and experience developing and delivering on ServiceNow or related initiatives or an associates degree in the aforementioned fields and 3+ years of ServiceNow or related experience. In lieu of a degree, a high school diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of ServiceNow or related experience will be considered.
Self-motivated with proven ITSM and ServiceNow knowledge
Strong grasp and understanding of CSDM 4.0 or 5.0
Demonstrated experience working on a team, with the ability to make a strong, hands-on contribution
A strong understanding of ITIL best-practice service-delivery
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Demonstrated strong problem solving, analytical skills and strategic thinking
Excellent interpersonal skills, including stakeholder management, training, presentation, and public speaking
Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, technology, and processes
Valid driver's license
Preferred:
Certifications such as ServiceNow Administrator, ITIL v.4, ServiceNow Implementation Specialist or Certified Application Developer
Demonstrated background with ServiceNow ITOM, including common asset integrations
SCRUM Experience
Experience with CMDB and Discovery
