Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Lead evaluation and underwriting of new and renewal business, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Develop and implement advanced risk assessment models for coverage, pricing, and terms decisions.
  • Build strategic partnerships with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to gather information and provide guidance.
  • Procure and analyze reports such as motor vehicle reports, loss histories, and external inspections to support underwriting decisions.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with insurance regulations.
  • Evaluate complex renewals and modifications, identifying opportunities for policy enhancements and risk mitigation.
  • Communicate underwriting strategies and decisions effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.
  • Maintain relationships with customers and partners to generate new business and retain profitable accounts.
  • Assist in monitoring and improving underwriting practices and outcomes.
  • May oversee staff performance, talent development, and related decisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
    • Experience: Minimum of 13 years in Underwriting or related fields. Professional designations such as AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, or ARM are preferred. Familiarity with marketing strategies is beneficial.
    • Qualifications: Ability to work independently on complex assignments, expert knowledge of policies and laws, strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, and occasional travel required.
    Additional Details
    • Location: Field role within Central Pennsylvania or Maryland.
    • Salary Range: $94,000 - $146,800.
