Job Summary

Develop, manage and grow a book of complex Healthcare Professional Liability, Social Services Professional Liability, and standalone Sexual Misconduct Liability accounts – always with the goal of maintaining long term profitability. Excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills. Experience underwriting excess professional liability on an insurance and reinsurance basis. Good relationships with regional and national brokerage firms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and underwrite middle-market and large/complex healthcare risks to determine the appropriate structure, terms and conditions required to profitably write the account.
  • Review new and renewal policy applications for Allied Healthcare Professional Liability, Social Services Professional Liability and Standalone Sexual Misconduct Liability; responsible for managing risk associated with policy underwriting.
  • Develop and maintain broker relationships through in-person and remote meetings
  • Cultivate relationships with internal and external resources to facilitate the underwriting process, promote business development, and to remain abreast of industry trends.
  • Serve as a resource to other departmental staff with regards to underwriting procedures and departmental guidelines.
  • Review referrals and provide training for more junior staff

• Develop work plans, establish timelines, and set goals for assigned work.

• Meet commitments on deadlines.

Communication

• Review activities, results, and recommendations with management and clients as appropriate.

Cost Management

• Drive improvement in existing business processes.

• Perform work thoroughly in a cost-efficient manner and at a high productivity level.

Business Controls and Policies

• Comply with all corporate policies and procedures.

• Report any breakdown in controls to management.

• Conduct all activities in a safe manner.

People Management

• No people management responsibility but may provide guidance to less experienced employees.

Education

4 years Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.

Certifications, Licenses, and Designations

Required

Studies toward attaining a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or equivalent insurance designation depending on specialty area

Experience

4+ Years Relevant underwriting or broking experience in HPL or related fields. Experience with large account underwriting, loss rating and form analysis are a plus.
