Department Overview

The Transmission System Planning (TSP) department performs interconnection studies, multi-year assessments, and develops transmission expansion plans to ensure safe and reliable electric service, adhering to NERC and WECC standards. The department also develops transmission policies and strategies to meet RPS goals and supports project implementation, operations, legal, and other internal departments.

Position Summary

This position is represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and involves providing technical, planning, and project support for transmission, substation, and distribution systems. Responsibilities grow with experience.

This role is hybrid, combining remote work with onsite requirements within the PG&E Service Territory.

Salary Range

CA Minimum: $153,828

CA Maximum: $197,628

Responsibilities
  • Prepare base cases and lead approval processes for PG&E's transmission load forecasts.
  • Lead generator testing, model development, and develop models for HVDC or other non-standard equipment.
  • Conduct transmission system studies, including long-term planning to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
  • Support the development of the Annual Transmission Planning Assessment and Expansion Plan.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal departments on planning and policy issues.
  • Lead complex studies such as RAS design and develop new analysis methods.
  • Develop interconnection standards and guide lower-level engineers on studies.
  • Lead the implementation of large-scale projects, including those requiring permits.
  • Lead regulatory filings and ensure compliance with FERC/NERC/WECC standards, including annual gap analysis.
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
  • 8 years of experience in electrical engineering, planning, or operations.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of power system theory, PG&E's system, and reliability standards.
  • Experience with system operations, engineering, or protection.
  • Experience with load flow programs like GE PSLF, programming languages such as Matlab, Python, VBA, EPCL.
  • Active California PE license in Electrical Engineering.
  • Master's in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
