Senior Principal Transmission Line Engineer

A major public utility in Arizona is undertaking one of the most ambitious grid transformation efforts in the Southwest; centered around a 2000 MW pumped hydro energy storage project and the build-out of over 50 miles of new 500kV transmission infrastructure.

They're hiring a Senior Principal Transmission Line Engineer to lead the technical direction of this multi-year transmission expansion - bringing a rare combination of system-wide scale, legacy-to-renewables transition, and boots-on-ground influence.

This is an engineering leadership role with strategic consequence. The work you do here will ripple across the region's energy economy for decades.

What You'll Own

• Serve as technical lead on all aspects of new transmission line engineering: from conceptual scoping and PLS-CADD modeling to loading calculations, structure framing, and spec-driven procurement.
• Guide the design, engineering, and construction of a major new 500kV corridor (~55 miles) and supporting upgrades across the system.
• Spearhead procurement for complex transmission materials and construction partners. Lead bid evaluations and vendor oversight.
• Operate as a cross-functional program leader, collaborating with planning, construction, supply chain, and exec stakeholders.
• Represent engineering in internal and external technical forums - developing standards, advising on regulatory and legal matters, and mentoring the next generation of engineers.

What You Bring

• 14+ years of hands-on engineering experience with a focus on high-voltage transmission.
• Expert-level skills in PLS-CADD, SAPS/FE modeling, structure analysis (TOWER), and ASCE 10.
• Proven experience delivering large, complex utility projects—from initial scoping through design, materials procurement, and construction.
• Strong understanding of transmission equipment and vendor ecosystems.
• Poise to interface with senior executives, legal teams, and external stakeholders.
• Bachelor's in Engineering (ABET-accredited or equivalent). PE preferred.
