Position Overview

HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Advisor to join our collaborative team in New York and New Jersey. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded, team-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, capable of leading activities related to environmental permitting, siting, planning, and compliance. This role involves working with environmental scientists, regulatory specialists, and engineers to lead and support projects across various market sectors.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manage projects related to environmental studies and permitting, including scope, budget, schedule, and issue resolution; oversee multiple projects concurrently.
  • Develop NEPA, NYSEQR, and NYCEQR documentation, assessing project effects on environmental resources.
  • Evaluate project impacts to determine permit requirements and develop strategies to mitigate effects.
  • Provide strategic guidance to clients on complex environmental permitting and regulatory issues.
  • Lead and participate in consultations with agencies such as NYSDEC, NYCDEP, and others.
  • Manage projects for key clients in NY and NJ, including NYC Department of Sanitation and renewable energy developers.
  • Support other project managers in preparing environmental and land use documents and reports.
  • Assist in marketing efforts to expand HDR's environmental and permitting practices in NY and NJ.
  • Establish and maintain client relations, participate in meetings related to contracts, design, and production.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Post-graduate degree preferred.
    • 10+ years of permitting experience in NY, including federal, state, and local permits.
    • Experience with environmental site assessments and analyses.
    • Understanding of environmental review processes and experience with Environmental Assessments and Impact Statements.
    • Knowledge of sustainability practices and ESG principles.
    • Proficiency with MS Office, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent communication skills.
    • Self-motivated, positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude.
    • Local candidates in NY or NJ preferred.
    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
    • At least 10 years of relevant experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years project management experience.
    • Familiarity with MS Office, estimating, scheduling, and project management software.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
